Student Bursary Program

Objective: To promote and recognize the importance of completing high school and encourage students to work towards higher educational attainment towards their career of interest by providing career-related bursaries. 15 bursaries are available at $300 each.

To apply for a bursary, eligible student applicants will submit a brief biography of themselves and their career interests using the form provided. They must also include how their current studies contribute towards their career goal and how they plan to pursue their career goal in the future. In addition, bursary applicants are eligible to enter our speech contest for which the grand prize for the best speech is $300. Specific details for the speech contest are available.

Eligible Participants:

  • Treaty #3 students attending High School or Alternative Education Programs on a full time basis for the 2011/12 Academic year
  • Student must in Grade 12
  • Up to 24 years of age upon graduation

Application Guidelines:

  • Bursary Application Form to be completed by the student with a letter of verification from an authorized school official
  • A brief Biography of Career Aspirations to be filled out using form provided
  • Signed Consent to Release Information Form must be submitted with application

Student Speech Contest Program

Objective: To encourage confidence in public speaking and recognize the importance of students working towards higher educational attainment towards their career of interest.

Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong is accepting submissions for speeches from Treaty #3 high school and alternative education students. Speech entries are to be aimed at sending a positive message to Youth by providing a brief biography as to how you are currently working towards your career aspirations. Speech entries must include how your current studies are contributing towards your career goal and how you plan to pursue your career goal in the future. In addition, special consideration will be given to those who include how the 7 Sacred Grandfather Teachings have helped guide you towards your career goal.

To cherish knowledge is to know Wisdom; To know Love is to know peace; To honour all of Creation is to have Respect; Bravery is to face the foe with integrity; Honesty in facing a situation is to be brave; Humility is to know yourself as a sacred part of Creation; Truth is to know all of these things.

Two prizes of $300 each will be granted for the best speech entry. One in the Grade 9 and 10 category and another in the Grade 11 and 12 category.

The Speech entry winner must be prepared to deliver their speech at a Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong sponsored event in order to accept the grand prize.
