Community-Based Training Initiatives

Objective: To provide unemployed community members with necessary basic and/or specialized skills and work experience leading to permanent and/or long-term employment.

Participants are considered employees of the employer/sponsor therefore wages are insurable earnings. Employer/sponsor pays the participant wages.

Participant wages, MERC, overhead, training costs and special costs. Funds cannot be used for purchase of materials and supplies related to housing. Please refer to program guidelines for detailed information on eligible costs. Maximum rates vary for non-profit and private sector applicants.

Projects can be a minimum of 12 weeks and up to a maximum of 35 weeks.

Must be a Treaty #3 member who is unemployed, at least 17 years of age and who has been out of school for a minimum of one year.

Purchase of Training

To provide unemployed community members with training to assist them in attaining basic or specialized skills.

Trainee allowances, overhead, training costs and special costs to accommodate disabled participants. Please refer to Program guidelines for detailed information for eligible costs.

Allowances are considered non-insurable and administered by Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong and are made directly to the trainee.

Training can be a minimum of 1 week and up to a maximum of 35 weeks

Must be a Treaty #3 member who is unemployed, at least 17 years of age and who has been out of school for a minimum of one year.

Community Enhancement Program

To assist employers to implement projects that will lead to the maintenance of employment skills for the unemployed and the creation of permanent or long-term employment. This program is not aimed at training of new skills.

Participant allowances, overhead and other costs based on the number of participant work weeks, up to a maximum of $5,000. There must be a minimum of 3 and up to 6 participants per project. Please refer to Program guidelines for detailed information on eligible costs.

Allowances including the sponsor top-up portion are non-insurable. Payment of allowances is made directly by the sponsor.

Projects must be a minimum of 8 weeks and up to maximum of 20 weeks

Must be a Treaty #3 member who is unemployed, at least 17 years of age and who has been out of school for a minimum of one year. All participants must meet Employment Insurance eligibility guidelines.
