Communique – COVID-19 Release

Booshoo. Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong prides itself in working towards building a strong Treaty #3 workforce working in collaboration with First Nations and providing pre-employment, access to employment opportunities and training interventions to Treaty #3 clients. We are committed to a client-focused approach.

Due to daily evolving conditions re COVID-19 and in consideration of our staff, clients and the general public, all our offices are closed until April 14, 2020. Currently, we are implementing our Business Continuity Plan as a result of COVID-19 in accordance to our Work from Home Policy. Shooniyaa Wa- Biitong remains committed to providing as many services as reasonably possible in a safe and responsible manner.

Staff will continue to support our clients by working remotely:

  • Program Staff such as Program Officers and Employment Advisors will remain available via technology by e-mail for current clients and new clients seeking employment and/or training assistance including the processing fast-track Participant Employment Supports.

Management Staff will remain available for First Nations leadership including finance to:

  • address current projects, files and payments
  • intake/process new applications (please note assessment and approval may delayed due to current situation and type of application received)

We are currently exploring on-line, on-demand webinars appropriate for our clients. In addition, we are stepping up our efforts to promote mental health wellness for our Youth through our social media sources.

All training events have been postponed. All travel has been cancelled.

We are closely following local, provincial and national developments. We are participating in local coordination and communication linkages.

2020 Student Achievers Award Program

Effective immediately, Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong is postponing the Student Achievers Awards and Career Employment Match Program. This is due to impacts of COVID-19 and resulting impacts to high schools and employers. We are working to redesign both programs to be available for release by April 10th. Please watch for details in the future.

If you have already submitted an application under the current Student Achievers Award or Career Employment Match, they will be processed for review.

We encourage Post-Secondary students considering applying under the Career Employment Match to work on updating their resumes by contacting our Employment Advisors at:

For Treaty #3 Students in Grade 9-12


To promote and recognize the importance of completing high school, career goal planning and achievement in the school and community. The theme for 2020 is building “Leadership”

Eligible student applicants must provide a school and support letter, a brief written biography and complete the Student Application form and a 500-word essay or submit a video clip.

Video clips must be no more than 2 minutes with a head shot. You will be introducing yourself, what school you are attending, your career goals, what helps you succeed in school and an encouraging message to other students about “Leadership”.

Eligible Students:

  • Treaty #3 students attending High School in Grades 9-12 or Alternative Education Programs on a full-time basis for the 2019/ 2020 Academic year and;
  • must be under the age of 24.

All student achievers must be prepared to attend a Shooniyaa Wa- Biitong sponsored event (location/dates to be determined). An invitation with details will be sent after final selections
