2018 Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong Speech Contest – “Regaining Strength, Honor and Pride”

Objective: To encourage confidence, develop skills in public speaking and recognize the importance of students working towards higher educational attainment based on their career of interest.  Shooniyaa Wa-Biitong is accepting submissions for speeches from Treaty #3 high school and alternative education students in grades 9 to 12. Two prizes of $300 each will be awarded for the best speech entry. One in the Grade 9 and 10 category and another in the Grade 11 and 12 category.

This year’s Speech Contest will be “Regaining Strength, Honour and Pride”.While our history as Indigenous Anishinaabe people in the Treaty #3 is marked by the legacy and impacts of the Residential School era, we continue to be resilient. Our communities are regaining strength, honour and pride in many ways.

Share with us what that means to you. What do you see happening?

In what ways does it bring hope to the Youth?
